Age of Solo

Tampertronics Lettie's music is a beguiling and unlikely mix of weird English art rock, '80s-era second British Invasion, a pinch of acoustic folk and more than a dash of British ska. Think 'Selling England by the Pound' crossed with 'Electric Avenue'. Album opener 'Hero' is a Bond theme on Amyl, and is the best song on the album until 'All You Want' comes along and makes me cry every damn time. The whole thing is covered in squelchy synths and backed up by a solid rhythm section. Proper ear candy. Favorite track: All You Want.

Tim I heard this on Soma, the first time I'd even heard of Lettie. From whence I found all her other songs. And they are all superb. So it has to be my favourite. It is darn good, brilliantly written, commercial in a good way, and her voice makes me smile even when she's angry. She runs the gamut of emotions without straying into maudlin sentimentality or bitterness. And she can be HILARIOUS - listen to Cheese on Everyman and I defy anyone to not laugh! Favorite track: My Name Is.
